At AUP, the liberal arts take on a global perspective. We prepare you to thrive in international environments, to communicate across cultural and disciplinary boundaries, and to develop the skills necessary to succeed in graduate school and international careers. Critical thinking, effective writing, digital communication and hands-on problem solving are at the heart of our curriculum. We aim to inspire you to consider global challenges and to embrace solutions that are informed by the spectrum of human knowledge across the humanities, arts, social sciences and natural sciences.
You will think critically about your place in the world and your role in its future. Grounded in the liberal arts tradition of independent inquiry, your classes will help you challenge assumptions, conduct research, navigate resources, evaluate findings and articulate well-reasoned arguments.
You will be knowledgeable in your chosen discipline or disciplines while benefiting from a larger interdisciplinary context. You will use a range of modes of analysis – quantitative, qualitative, visual, digital and textual – with care and resourcefulness. You will continue to meet the challenges of intellectual, personal and professional growth in meaningful and balanced ways beyond the University.
You will apply your knowledge and skills to the global challenges of the 21st century. The core values of curiosity, integrity and collaboration will enable you to act with commitment and ethical responsibility.
You will be skillful at engaging with diversity and difference in an international setting. You will hone your intercultural awareness and abilities. You will understand how exciting ideas and valid viewpoints are articulated in a multiplicity of languages and language competencies and across a variety of cultures. You will demonstrate mastery in communicating in English and be comfortable interacting with the French environment in which you will be living.
